ProVia French Door Installation in St. Louis

ProVia builds French doors in three of its door lines: Signet and Ascent fiberglass, and Legacy steel. Every one comes as a French front door or a French patio door, with sidelites, transoms and eight glass options.
STL Windows and Doors is a ProVia Platinum Dealer and certified installer. Our own crew replaces an old entry, patio or sliding door with a hinged pair of glass doors in the same opening, across St. Louis, St. Charles, Jefferson, Franklin and Lincoln counties.
You choose the pair, which door opens, whether it swings in or out, the size, the finish and the glass. The installation carries a 10-year workmanship warranty.
French front door or French patio door? The same pair hangs as either one. On St. Louis homes it most often replaces a sliding glass door that sticks or leaks, a solid front door that leaves the foyer dark, or a walkout basement door.
FRENCH DOOR KEY FEATURES
Two hinged doors, one opening, your choices. Every ProVia French door we install is built this way.
Two Hinged Doors
Hinged at each end with the hardware in the center. You choose the active door, left or right.
Inswing or Outswing
Swing the pair into the room or out onto the patio, decided before the doors are ordered.
Locks at Three Points
Slide bolts top and bottom on the inactive door, plus a deadbolt on the active door.
Unequal Pairs
One wide door and one narrow door, for an opening two full doors will not fit.
Sidelites and Transoms
Fixed glass beside or above the pair, built into the same frame.
Eight Glass Options
From clear glass with grids to privacy glass and blinds sealed between the panes.
ENERGY STAR
Most styles qualify. The glass package you pick decides whether yours does.
Custom Sizing
Built in 1/8-inch steps on Ascent, and up to 8 feet tall on Legacy.
Warranty: a 15-year finish warranty on Signet, 10 years on Ascent, plus our 10-year workmanship warranty on the installation.
FRENCH DOOR SKIN OPTIONS
The skin is the face of the door. Fiberglass skins carry a woodgrain or a smooth face; steel skins come smooth, embossed or textured. Pick the line first, then the skin. Tap a swatch to enlarge it.
Ascent fiberglass in White Oak, with wide or traditional embossing, or Smooth.
Legacy steel in Smooth, Smooth HD embossing, Smooth Shaker embossing or Woodgrain Textured.
FRENCH DOOR STYLES
Every style is built as a French pair, and sidelite styles are labeled. Tap a style to enlarge it.
THE THREE PROVIA FRENCH DOORS WE INSTALL
Fiberglass costs more and never dents. Steel costs less and is rigid. All three are foam-core doors with a factory finish, and all three come as a French pair with sidelites and transoms.

Signet Fiberglass French Doors
Signet is the woodgrain door. The skin comes in Cherry, Mahogany, Oak, Knotty Alder, Fir or Smooth.
Dovetailed stiles and rails hold the door square, and a polyurethane core insulates it. The DuraFuse finishing system carries a 15-year finish warranty.
- Woodgrain skins: Cherry, Mahogany, Oak, Fir and Knotty Alder, plus Smooth.
- Dovetailed stiles and rails: one solid frame that stays square.
- Polyurethane core and weatherstripping: insulation and a tight seal.
- Your choice of panel style, glass and hardware.
- DuraFuse finishing system: a factory finish with a 15-year warranty.

Ascent Fiberglass French Doors
Ascent is the fiberglass door built to your opening. It comes in custom widths and heights in 1/8-inch steps.
The skin is a White Oak woodgrain or smooth, with a 10-year finish warranty. Inscribed Doors and Panel Planks are Ascent options.
- Custom sizes: widths and heights in 1/8-inch steps, so the door fits the opening.
- White Oak woodgrain or smooth skin.
- Factory stain or paint with a 10-year finish warranty.
- Inscribed Doors and Panel Planks options.
- Fiberglass skin that resists denting, splitting, cracking and warping.

Legacy Steel French Doors
Legacy is the steel door. Its skin is 20-gauge galvannealed steel, which is 49% more steel than a 24-gauge door. It comes smooth, embossed or woodgrain textured.
Legacy pairs come in custom widths and heights up to 8 feet, and you can order a different style and finish on each side of the door.
- 20-gauge galvannealed steel: 49% more steel than a 24-gauge door.
- Foam-filled core and thermal barriers that slow heat and cold.
- Smooth, embossed or woodgrain texture, in stains and paints.
- Custom widths and heights up to 8 feet, with a different style and finish on each side.
- Steel that resists warping and cracking.

FRENCH DOOR FINISH OPTIONS
Every finish is applied at the ProVia factory and warranted against flaking, checking, blistering and peeling. Choose from 33 paint colors on any line, stains and glazes on the Signet woodgrain skins, and White Oak stains on Ascent.
Screens and monitors are not color-calibrated the same way, so paint, stain and glaze colors may look slightly different on your device than on the actual door. Ask your STL Windows and Doors representative for a physical sample before finalizing a color. Custom color matching is available if you need an exact shade.
FRENCH DOOR GLASS OPTIONS
Glass decides how the pair looks and how it performs. Privacy glass or internal blinds give you light without a view in from the neighbor’s yard. Most ProVia French door styles qualify for ENERGY STAR, and the glass package you pick decides whether yours does. Tap an option to enlarge it.
WILL FRENCH DOORS FIT YOUR OPENING?
A French door pair fits most patio and entry openings without wall work. Four things decide the details, and all four are settled at your in-home estimate. You never measure anything yourself.
Sizes and Custom Sizing
Most sliding glass door openings take a pair of the same width. Ascent doors are built to your opening in 1/8-inch steps, Legacy steel pairs come up to 8 feet tall, and an unequal pair fits an opening two full doors will not.
Which Door Opens, and Which Way
You pick the active door, left or right, and inswing or outswing. Inswing leaves room for a storm door outside. Outswing saves floor space inside and sheds weather on an exposed deck, but a standard storm door will not fit over it.
One Door Fixed, or Both
Both doors open. In daily use one stays bolted top and bottom at the center strip, called the astragal, and the pair seals better that way. Release the bolts when you need the full width.
Screens
A hinged French door does not include a screen. On an inswing pair, a storm door with a screen is the usual answer. The swing is chosen before the doors are ordered, because it decides this.
HOW A FRENCH DOOR PAIR LOCKS AND SEALS

A French door pair locks at three points. The astragal on the fixed door carries a slide bolt at the top and one at the bottom. The active door carries the deadbolt, which throws into the astragal. With both bolts set, the two doors act as one rigid panel.
The seal comes from the installation. A pair set plumb, level and square shows an even gap around both doors, and the doors meet flush at the center. The deadbolt throws without you lifting the door.
No daylight shows at the weatherstrip, and the sill is sealed, so the floor stays dry after rain. Those are the four things to look at on the day it is finished. They are what the 10-year workmanship warranty stands behind.
WHAT DRIVES THE COST OF FRENCH DOOR INSTALLATION

The price of a French door installed depends on the door you pick and the opening it goes in. Five things move it:
- Fiberglass or steel: fiberglass costs more, and woodgrain stains sit above smooth paint
- Glass: decorative, wrought iron, privacy and internal-blind glass cost more than clear glass with grids
- Sidelites and a transom add glass and frame
- Custom sizes, unequal pairs and 8-foot doors cost more than a standard pair
- The condition of the sill and framing: a straight swap costs less than a repair first
Your estimate covers the door built to your opening, removal of the old door, installation by the company’s own crew, cleanup, and the 10-year workmanship warranty. A stock door from a store is built to a standard size, not to your opening. The seller and the installer are usually two different companies.
You can save with our cash discount. Same-as-cash financing is available through GreenSky, EnerBank USA and Aqua. The estimate is free, in your home, with no obligation.
HOW THE INSTALLATION GOES, START TO FINISH
Four steps, from your first call to the finished pair.
Talk with a Pro
You request a free estimate, and a project consultant calls to schedule a time to visit your home.
Onsite Assessment
The consultant measures the opening, checks the sill and framing, and shows you door skins, stains and glass samples. You pick the active door, the swing, the size, the finish and the glass.
Your Estimate
You get a written estimate with the pricing and the installation details spelled out. Once you sign and place a down payment, our measure and installation tech schedules a secondary measure before we place your order.
Installation Day
The installers remove the old door or slider, set the new pair, seal it, trim it out and clean up. Move furniture, blinds and curtains away from the door first. Homes built before 1978 get lead-safe practices, which we are licensed for. Then the installers show you how the locks and both doors work.
